How does Jamaica Partners for Peace work?
Members are free to seek the assistance of others in the Community of Practice by submitting "queries". Any member can respond to query messages by replying to the network. Replies are monitored by the facilitator and compiled into one e-mail (a Consolidated Reply) which is posted on the Network.
All messages posted to the Network fall into one of the following categories (as specified in the message subject lines). The Facilitator ensures that all messages circulated on the Network are labeled with one of the following:
QUERY : Questions from persons directly working on a specific security and justice initiative. Generally they are requests for: related experiences; documents or expert referrals; advice and suggestions. The query is 'open' for responses for approximately two weeks.
In addition, the Facilitator responds to various queries that may not be necessarily posted on the network. The Facilitator may provide referrals to practitioners and experts and share resources in the subject area.
CONSOLIDATED REPLY: After two to three weeks the Facilitator reviews all responses to a particular query and consolidates them in one message along with a summary of the responses and, in many cases, additional research from the facilitator. The consolidated reply may serve as a future topical reference.
After receiving a Consolidated Reply, you might take the opportunity to follow up "offline" or by email with colleagues that responded to your query.
NEWSLETTER: Monthly electronic newsletters feature information shared by community members collected and edited by the Facilitator, including lessons learned pieces and other stories from the field, profiles of members, security and justice news, the latest resources, event announcements, calls for papers, vacancy announcements, etc. We invite members to share stories on security and justice initiatives, latest resources, upcoming events and other news of relevance with the Facilitator for inclusion in the Newsletter.
E-DISCUSSION: Discussions launched with pre-defined discussion questions generally hosted by a Guest expert moderator and spanning the course of a number of weeks. eDiscussions may contribute to shaping a policy position in a given area and often result in a substantive knowledge product.
FOR COMMENTS : Draft papers that network members are asked to review and comment upon.
